Can Redcliffe Wellness help with my knee pain?

knee pain 1

Yes

Knee pain is an increasingly more common problem in Australia and as a result we see more and more patients with knee problems.

The most common complaints relate to ‘wear and tear’ or osteoarthritis:- wear and tear can be from a change in alignment and change of load which can definitely be improved says FIFA; although a condition such as osteoarthritis is changes visible on x-ray that may not change even though the pain goes, the symptoms can be reduced and relieved with the stagnation of the tissue (trapped in a conpartment) that causes swelling; this can be reduced and relieved to get you moving pain less, you can be helped thanks to our unique approach to treatment:

We now incorporate the FIFA Football Medicine Diploma course Dr Steve is doing 2016-2017 onward, incorporating Best Practice for knee releasing contractions in your groin, feet and hips and psoas muscle increase your speed pain free.

Our knees are subject to a tremendous amount of weight-bearing forces. Blunt trauma to the knee from falls, vehicle accidents, and other sources also lead to intense knee conditions.

A knee will experience extreme stress when the joint is unable to slip into a nearly straight line. Over time, redundant side to side motion (shearing force) can cause serious joint problems. The result will be swelling, pain and malfunction. Left untreated, these inflammatory knee disorders may lead to arthritis.

Traditional therapies for treating knee pain include heat, ultrasound, ice, strapping, rehabilitation  and exercise. These methods may give the patient some initial pain relief, but by themselves they may not ample to develop a full and lasting recovery. They temporarily fix the symptoms, but not the cause of the problem, so the knee pain returns.

Knee positioning can be improved though therapeutic measures. Such measures include joint manipulation.

Whether a knee condition is acute (injury related) or chronic (wear and tear related) the importance of getting a good diagnosis and receiving appropriate treatment cannot be overrated.

Dr Steve is trained to treat these types of conditions at this level. A consultation with us could help you determine just how much you can do to improve the condition of your knees.

ENAR for Knee and Joint Problems

OUR EXPERIENCE

I like how the ENAR has massively improved my patient outcomes for knees and feet.

This machine we use in conjunction with other instruments to break up debris in and around a damaged joint in particular the knee joint. The manual therapies we use are highly effective at removing knee pain in each phase of movement; however no two knee injuries are alike so we have to continually adopt our procedure, we get good results at staving off knee surgery, low results for recent acute injuries, and better results with pain in excess of 30 days.

We have found with just over two hundred knee pain patients, about 160 fitted our criteria for ENAR, and 8/10 of these had immediate improvement. Of these about a third maintained improvement till next visit, the next third improvement diminished over time, and the remainder the pain returned; that was without modifying behavior and no strapping.

As a General observation, chronic patients with knee pain 2-5 years and deteriorating; within three months of our care (with ENAR) are pain free in normal movement but still restricted in stairs and angles and quick turns. Patients with long standing knee pain of 10-20 years duration have either less pain (up to 70%) or better movement. Severe chronic pain of the knee that is disabling gets better but it’s a slow plod over a long time, these patients I call ‘regulars’ they come in a set schedule just to be better.

It works fine with people who have had operations, dislocations and surgeries of different types; we follow the FIFA Football Medicine Diploma treatment options with good results.

THE SCIENCE FACTS on ENAR

The ENAR ® (Electro Neuro Adaptive Regulator) is an Australian Made hand-held therapeutic medical device (ARTG listing 147761) for both personal use and therapist use. The ENAR is essentially a neuro-feedback stimulator that uses Interactive Transcutaneous-Electro-Neuro-Stimulation (TENS) technology to prompt the body to respond to relieve pain and restore function. ENAR Therapy is safe, non-invasive, non-toxic, and non-injurious and works directly and dynamically via its reflex stimulation capacity anywhere on the body.

“The ENAR device stimulates and measures the “reflex-biofeedback” changes in the skin and interprets the changes in the skin (skin impedance). In ENAR therapy, skin changes are areas of difference called “asymmetry” or “key zones”. These areas are where normal homeostasis is not present, or at least not optimal and so treatment focuses on these locations. The signals from the ENAR when applied to the body prioritise and amplify communication from the sensory nerve endings of the peripheral nervous system (PNS). This input is processed in the brain, which initiates a response transmitting the new information through the central nervous system (CNS) to muscles and glands to coordinate and regulate responses. Slower acting chemical messengers, such as hormones and neuro-peptides are also stimulated which effect more long term changes in physiological activities and result in pain relief.”  Professor Arun Aggarwal   Rehabilitation & Pain Medicine

ENAR results with pain relief and rehabilitation can be exceptional. See Research  http://www.enar.com.au/research/

What does ENAR do?

Based on university randomised control trials and post-market surveillance surveys plus hundreds more of individually reported cases we can say that quite usually ENAR Therapy relieves pain, and improves functionality, in a natural way, often with sustained results. ENAR can be used to treat a variety of painful conditions and in the randomised control trial was also seen to contribute in helping the body restore and maintain general health, including mental and emotional health. (SF36 Scores)

One theory is that since our health relies on the natural flow of electricity, energy and information within the body, it appears that stress, injury or disease disrupts these flows and creates what are called ‘Key-points’ or differences.

Whenever the body has lost its natural integrating balance it manifests as what can be called an ‘Asymmetry’. An Asymmetry is an area in the body of ‘dis-integration’ or asymmetry, where homeostasis, the natural cycle of adaptive integration, is not present. Asymmetry is a sign of a blockage in the energy/information flow. Essentially an asymmetry is a difference. Signs of asymmetry include differences in skin colour, sensitivity, responsiveness, loss of function, and of course pain.

ENAR® Therapy Strategy “finds and treats Key-Points”

A Key-point is a difference that represents dysfunction. An area of asymmetry may be very recent, Acute, perhaps a result of traumatic injury. It might be a more Chronic problem that has been present for months that developed slowly. It might be a part of a complex set of problems, inter-related with other areas, involving a general more Holistic and long-standing condition. (Acute problems may often respond to treatment faster).

Whether Acute, Chronic or Holistic the ENAR therapist or ENAR personal user has just one objective – ‘Find and treat the Key-points’

ENARBy probing and measuring the body’s responses the ENAR is showing where the asymmetry or difference in response is located. The electrical properties of the skin and its underlying tissues have very different properties when inflamed or injured, compared to normal healthy tissue. Simultaneously the ENAR is also interactively and responsively stimulating these areas so as to prompt the body to try to recognize, prioritise and manage a return to normal.

Under the influence of an ENAR device the asymmetry is induced to change, to enter into a ‘dynamic’ and this is usually the beginning of pain reduction and functional recovery.
